Excellent!

I must get one of those. Monarch colours, please, as they're my favourite
butterfly.

He's right about pedestrians.

Now before we start a flame war here where people tell us all the bad things
cyclists have done to them and their extended families over the past 50 years,
I acknowledge that there are lots of bad cyclists out there just as there are
lots of bad drivers.

And no, the vast majority of pedestrians are just fine. But there are a
minority who are just a pain in the ass. There are those who are too busy
checking their smartphones to look before they cross.

There are those who suddenly jump onto the roadway to run a few steps to get
ahead of other pedestrians impeding their progress. Unfortunately they take
those few steps right where cyclists tend to be.

There are the "two steps and look" types who only check for vehicles when
they're half-way into the street.

But worst of all are "the entitled". They cross the street and just assume that
traffic will stop for them. Sure, they look initially to make sure they aren't
in imminent danger, but once they start to cross (illegally as they're jay
walking) they go slowly, never varying their pace, making cars and cyclists
slow down, swerve around them or sometimes even come to a complete stop as they
amble along their way. They basically dare vehicles to hit them.

These are also tend (in my observation) to be the mouthiest when one points out
their rude behaviour.

So I've stopped yelling at them to get out of my way. I just ride by close
enough that they know they've inconvenienced me but not close enough to put
them in any jeopardy (or vice-versa).

Now if I had auto-unfurling butterfly wings I could really get a point across!

;-)

cheers,
frank
