G'day all
Thanks for the very valuable feedback - it's very much appreciated.
Based on the suggestions, I've tweaked the site - hopefully for the better.
A few specific comments:
Derby asked:
Is this structure easy to update?
Yes. Absolutely. It's basically three JAlbum galleries linked by the
home page. The biggest task was modifying the JAlbum templates to
match the design of the home page. Once that was done, updating is
simply a case of adding/deleting images, regenerating the galleries
and uploading the amended pages. Takes almost no time at all.
Several comments mentioned that there should be a link to the home
page via the main logo. Thanks, I should have thought of that - now
done.
The other suggestion was that there should be a link back to the home
page from the individual images. That was a bit more difficult. I
tried putting the main logo on the image pages but I didn't like the
look. I compromised by creating a small 'home' icon and putting that
on the image pages. For consistency, I also replaced the 'Up' arrow
on the index pages with the 'home' icon.
Stan commented:
My one small niggle is that, on your About page you have a section that
outlines your Online Albums. The Online Albums sub-header is a link
to an index page but none of the names of the individual albums are
themselves live links. Since you've taken the trouble to describe
the individual albums and entice me to look further, I would rather
be able to go directly to an album rather than via an intermediary
index page. Or at least make the Online Albums sub-heading larger so
it is more obvious that it is the link to the albums . .
Good point. The size of the Online Albums sub-heading was chosen to
match other sub-headings on that page, but the other sub-headings
aren't links so I guess it is a bit confusing. If I put in links to
individual albums, there's no real need for the intermediary index
page. I want to re-work the navigation and design of those albums and
I'll take up your suggestion as part of that.
Bob S commented:
The web site looks good. Navigation is easy. My first trip there, I
didn't get any big picture, or any picture to start off. A couple of
hours later on a re-visit, I got opening pictures and faster service.
Yes - that's a problem I'm still wrestling with. Ideally I'd like a
picture to appear quickly in the image frame and then be replaced by
the Javascript slideshow. This would avoid the black 'nothingness'
that appears if the Javascript is slow to start. I just haven't worked
out a method to achieve this.
Steve commented:
you seem to have a few fuzzy plants down under;?>
By that I guess you mean lots of plants where petals aren't prominent
but stamens are conspicuous. I suppose that's true, but they are
probably over-represented in my gallery.
Thanks again, all.
Cheers
Brian

Summer in Sydney has been one of the wettest I can remember so I've
spent a lot more time at the computer than usual. Not much
photography at all...
Anyway, I thought I might take the opportunity to rework my website
because updating the old one was a PITA. If you have time to dip
in for a few minutes, I'd appreciate any feedback, especially
regarding the ease (or otherwise) of navigating around.
