Hi, I think I saw that there will be an artistic tribute to those who suffered during the attack on the WTC tomorrow. The artist will place many spotlights in the place where the buildings stood (or in a nearby location?) and project them upward so that it images of the building will form in light. Anyhow, I hope someone on this list will take a few pics and show them off. The computer rendering of it I saw on tv looked very moving.
On an unrelated note, in the Sunday Cleveland Plain Dealer, there was a very interesting article about a "Photo Hobo", a guy who seem to live for nothing else other than photographing first trains, and then old movie theaters and neon lights. He would drive hundreds of miles, take a picture as the train past, then try to catch it again some hundreds of miles later, then take another. He would go on long trips, sleeping in the back of his truck, bringing food to be microwaved at 7-Elevens, brushing his teeth in McDonalds, etc. If a car was in front of a theater, he would search the street and get the driver to move it or if it had a clutch, well, he just moved it out of the way himself. He once went to take a picture of a theater in Laredo, Texas, found newly planted saplings in the view, and cut them down to get a better view. He often climbed on peoples garages and on water towers to grab a shot. An ex-roomate says that he didn't typically show off any of the pictures, that he didn't do it to have the photograph, that he was in it for the hunt, knowing that it was there and getting it. He died in 1989 from cancer and left over 80,000 slides to his wife who is marketing them. Jim Marcus was his name. Sorry, just had to share, it just made me laugh and re-examine my own obsessions.
