Stunning gallery -- I often shy from picking faves but I have 3 or 4
piggybacking on Darren's so I can get in my thanks :-)

I agree that there are so many images that are admirable for many
different reasons...
Walter Hamler's "Hot Dog Heaven" is a great application of fisheye
lines (if they haven't purchased this image from you for use on menus
and advertising, Walter, they are crazy. Since you enjoy the place,
take your payment in hot dogs).
That's one of my faves - and I don't normally like fish eye stuff.. this
is such fun...
Right next to it is my #1 for this month - Ed Keeney's Golden Gate..
Decisive moment isn't always people. Just gorgeous and I wish I'd
taken it.
Then Rick's Bavarian Woods, Paul's "Plastic Land" - good candidate for
BW too. I laughed out loud.
My one minor quibble with "Nationale" by Ann Sanfedele (that the
vertical lines aren't vertical) can be easily overlooked by the
brilliant repetition of triangles in the composition. Ad woman's legs,
walker's legs, sleeping on bench guy's leg, folded corner of the
peeling ad. A terrific B&W street shot.
Glad you liked it, Darren
I see your pointabout verticals .. I guess if I had taken this recently
and put it in photoshop I _might_ have straightened the wall on the
left. I meant to write something about it on the caption but hit send
too fast.. so here it is:
"Taken in April of 1981. I was on a train going in the opposite
direction - that is, across the tracks. train had stopped - I
only took one frame. I cropped a bit to get some distracting stuff
off the edges. Flatbed scan from my 8 x 10 print made 30 years ago.
I waited for the guy in the coat to get to that spot - well, waited
a couple of seconds.. I had the camera already up to catch the guy
lying on the bench juxtaposed with the "dressed to kill" poster. "
The image that struck me (at small size) the most, and the one I still
have the most questions about (as in "i'm intruigued" is "Don't Go
Bananas" by Paul Sorenson. I'd love to know more about how that was
made, Paul (and why).
.
I'd like to know more about that as well - an intersting very commercial
shot - my natural loathing of bananas might keep me from wanting it on
ly wall tho har!
I also like Malcolm's "Wall in the Forest" a lot for a more serious
bit of photo journalism. I'd go back there and shoot more if it were
near me to find the best possible light.
These are just very subjective responses - but all are "wish I'd taken
that" in category. Well, except the banana hA!
