I tried looking through the list when Dan first posted it a few days ago. I just couldn't get all the way through it (just as I can't today).
There's just way too much absolutely pretentious bullshit to wade through to get the odd little gem of wisdom. And to be honest, those gems are nothing new (he steals from Robert Capa fer gawd's sake!). I couldn't get past 41 and 42. Maybe it's because it sounds too much like the late Thomas Kinkade that it pisses me off, but photography does not mean "painting with light". Yes, learning to use light is very important, but that lead-in really turned me off. And "finding your style and sticking with it" is the ~worst~ advice I've ever heard! How is anyone going to learn and grow as a photographer if one doesn't experiment, stretch, take chances and have fun with different genres (at least once in a while)? "Hey, there's a Little League baseball game down the street. I'd go shoot it, but I'm a nature photographer and I want to stick to my genre." Geez, what an idiot! I could go on but what's the use? Even when he's right what he says are like sound bites on the news. Without more information they're possibly useless or even dangerous (photograpically speaking). That guy is so full of himself. Sigh...
