Hi Paul ... The length of a mechanical release should have no effect on how it works - at least that's been my experience using thre different lengths. Sometimes a short release is just fine, after all, if you're working close to the camera why use a longer, and perhaps more cumbersome, setup. OTOH, sometimes a very long release is advantageous, and there have been times when the 5-foot remote release cord for the LX and MEII winders has come in quite handy.
