There are no bad lenses. Only lenses used badly. I'm not sure if some of those images are truly low contrast from flare, or if they have been lomographied with Instagram or something.
In any event, in this day and age, there is no excuse not to know what you are getting when you purchase a lens. Between online galleries and owner reviews you can pretty much tell if a lens is going to fit your use for it.
