I forgot to mention.  I keep aspiring to only shoot at "the critical moment" 
when photographing at dances, rather than taking a bunch and throwing most of 
them away.  I'm finding that when it is hard to even see through the lens, much 
less focus on moving people, and compose, the critical moment is often defined 
by "when I think my subject is in focus".
