Apparently you're supposed to get one of these good-luck birds tattooed on after 10,000 nautical miles at sea and another after the next 10,000 miles. Julia has two of these birds, one on each thigh, but I didn't ask her where she'd sailed. :-)
BTW, she plays jazz flute. I'll try to get her to come down to the jazz jam at the Gallery Studio Cafe one Tuesday evening. I'll let you know if she's expected. Thanks for looking, Frank!
