Looking for advice here. I've never been to Italy, but I spent quite a
bit of time during the 1990s in Scotland, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and
France. I've been back a couple of times since then, as well.
Next year, I'm seriously considering spending about a week following the
route of the Mille Miglia race in Italy. Basically, start in Rome, go
northwest through Firenze, Bologna, Parma, Brescia. Southeast to
Ferrara, south to San Marino, and southwest back to Rome.
At about 1,000 miles (~1600 km), that'll work out to around 150 miles
(~250 km) per day, overnighting somewhere different each night. So a
fairly leisurely pace. Most days, mornings and evenings would be
dedicated to wherever I am, and drive from maybe 1100 to maybe 1300 to
the next stop. Haven't decided what time of year, but probably late
summer or early fall.
So any special things or places I should factor into my planning?
Warnings about speed traps? :)
