yeah, that's more likely; not a lot to go on in Dan's photos, and there are glaucus/pubescent-leaved phlox, but i see lychnis coronaria a lot in Drenver and it makes sense

ornamental garden plant for hot dry areas. It's very drought resistant
because of its reflective colour and fine hairs that cover it. It's
quite expensive to buy.

pretty common and moderately-priced here in Denver; seeds are very cheap
