 I found that a 90mm lens sufficed at times, even the 180mm was

 I wasn't allowed to use print film.  The lab I use had to really 
screw around to get the stuff into their minilab to print.  I don't 
have my own darkroom, so I was stuck with using slides.

 I eventually decided that while these panoramic slides look really 
good, they're nothing more than cropped full-frame 6x7's.
