I've always loved that photo. How generous of you to donate the use of it
to this worthy cause!
Glad to hear that the river has been reopened. I'm sure it's only because
of the work of many tree-hugging environmentalists. ;-)
I'm sure the several million $ from the offending oil company had something
to do with it....
Nice work BTW Mark !
cheers,
frank

Subject: Rebirth of a River
A couple of years ago, at the same time as the Gulf Oil Spill, there was
a much smaller oil spill in Talmadge Creek in SW Michigan. Much smaller
= 800,000 to 1,000,000 gallons of oil. Talmadge Creek is much much
smaller than the Gulf of Mexico - you could practically spit across it,
if you are a good spitter. The oil flowed from the creek into the
Kalamazoo River and befouled a whole lot of it.
The Kalamazoo River was finally reopened this summer. A commemorative
poster has been put together and is being sold as a fund raiser for the
not-for-profits involved in the oil cleanup. I donated use of one my
photos for the poster - the same one that runs across the top of my
blog. Chuck Lund, another local nature photographer (and acquaintance
that I used to run into at art fairs) took the smaller insert photos.
You can see it here -
