that is far too simplistic a statement to be of any value at all. Some
natural light is extremely damaging to a great many materials - just leave a
photograph, or a pair of jeans, or a tapestry, or a drawing by Michelangelo
in the sun for while. 

Other types of light, including flash, are more or less damaging to other
types of material. The accumulated impact of thousands of flashes per year
over tens (and eventually hundreds) of years will be all the more damaging.

The right of others and of future generations to enjoy these works far
outweighs my or your right to take crappy flash photographs of them.
