The good news is I heard back from profoto and got the info I need to buy a new 
modeling bulb.

They even sent me a copy of a pdf of a manual that should tell me how to remove 
the glass cover:

Unfortunately it seems that the "glass bulb" is actually the flash bulb 
assembly, and despite the pro-5 manual referring to locking pins for it, they 
are not visible or accessible on the pro-40.
