lol.  It's a solution with chromium ions used in an oscillating
chemical reaction called the Belousov-Zabotinsky reaction.  The
bananas were being used in a demo on extracting DNA.  Both experiments
were part of a summer alumni event called "Family Adventures in
Science". Their proximity was fortuitous.
