I get most of my French films from amazon.fr so I don't have to put up with
English subtitles. Many of the French-issue films do have English subtitles,
but you can always turn them off, which is not always the case with
Criterion. In addition, the French ones often have subtitles for the
hard-of-hearing, so if the language is beyond me I watch French subtitles.

However, for Tati it doesn't matter because what you're hearing is not real
dialogue, but sound effects. One of the many facets of Tati's genius is his
use of sound.

You may have difficulty playing Euro DVDs in the US unless you have a
multi-region player, but you can get a UK boxed set off Amazon.com, or order
from Amazon.co.uk:
