I think that it is front focused on the back of his shoulder. One of the problems of the small screen on the cameras is that photos which are only slightly mis focused look sharp when you check them on the screen. Judging by the number of photos that were front focused by a few inches, what I think I did on those were was use live view to focus, then move the camera back to my face, rather than moving my face up to the camera.
