A couple of weeks ago I took a look at the KEH site and saw that
their 200 f4's for the 645 had dropped back to a reasonable price. A
couple of years ago I wanted to order one, but kept putting it off. I
finally went to place the order just after the 645D was announced,
and saw that the price for the lenses had practically doubled.
Anyway, the prices have dropped again to less than they were
previously, so I ordered one in EX condition with caps for $99.
I also made an impulse purchase in the form of a Tamron 55-200 zoom
for my Nikon D70 beater camera, for $39 new. It's a plastic mount
kit-class lens with screw drive AF...and I guess the newer, low-end
Nikons no longer screw...so there's not much demand for these lenses.
Anyway, the lenses arrived today and both look good. The Pentax looks
brand new. I'm hoping to get over to Lunenburg tomorrow - if Leslie
has moved on - to give it a work out.

Okay, Canadians, now that all the riff-raff have moved on, here is my
advice: if you want to order something from KEH, do not do it through
their web site! They only offer one shipping option online, and that
is Fedex, which starts at almost $60 and goes up from there. For my
$138 order the shipping was almost $80. In addition, Fedex will sock
it to you with a brokerage fee on delivery, which is something like
20% with a $10 minimum. I sent KEH an email complaining about this
and they replied, telling me to call in. I did, and they offered me
USPS Priority for $41 - and no brokerage fee. I complained some more,
and they grudgingly offered me USPS first class for...$22. I took
that and placed the order over the phone with the guy.
Anyway, the lenses arrived in two weeks less a day at my post office.
I went to pick them up, ready to pay some HST and maybe duty, but the
postmistress just handed me the box and sent me on my way. Yay!
So, if you ever order from KEH, do it over the phone.
