All I can offer is an anecdote, Larry. I got the Sigma APO 400/5.6 Macro about a year after it was discontinued, at a "get it out of our inventory" sale. I'd had it a year or two. One day, I picked up the case, and the thing made a weird clunking sound from inside the padded case. I didn't even mount it to the camera, just boxed it up and sent it to Sigma with a letter of explanation. Got it back less than three weeks later, fixed, with an "invoice" that told me what they fixed (can't remember what it was) and a "total due" of US$0.00.
