Welll...
MY friend had a cord to lend me to check out the monitor...
everything hooked up fine... except, when I connected the monitor to
the C521 a message appeared on the screen that said " Cannot display in
this video mode." (don't shoot me if I didn't get those exact words right)
My wild guess is that I'd have to reset the display mode to a lower
resolution and pixel dimensions - sure don't wnat to do that.
The $15 monitor though displayed the word DELL and the error message
very sharp and clear, must be something one could do with it.

It could be the resolution, the color depth or the refresh rate. If
you're running XP, the computer should have auto-detected the monitor &
set it to the closest settings it would accept.
Reset your display resolution to 640x480 (VGA) and then hook up the new
monitor. EVERY monitor should support VGA.
Once you get a desktop, you should be able to right click the desktop,
select "Properties" and look on the Settings tab to see what resolutions
the new monitor will accept.
