I agree that using the topside lugs is a pain. One of the
first things I did was switch the clips to a real Pentax
strap (& ditch the wimpy Minolta strap) and hook them to
the two lugs on the left (from shooting position) side. It
hangs down about belt-level allowing a hand to steady it
while walking and it's easy and comfortable to swing up to
either landscape or portrait shooting position.
I agree that the handle would be nice to have and am on
the lookout, myself - but mostly for the flash shoe.
