Aluminum can be chrome plated, but it would be a costly and inefficient method. I think the "chrome" reference is more in regard to color rather than coating method. I would guess that both are anodized. Anodizing can be colorless and is sometimes used just to harden things. Crankshaft journals, for example, are hard anodized for racing applications. Paul
