Not on a lens with a rotating mount, Paul. The Tokina has a lovely one 
that clicks into place at 90 degree intervals, and is then tightened.

I have to agree with you here: this is how I would tend to use a monopod. 
The only exception would be on soft ground where the foot sinks, so I 
place the foot on the toe of my shoe - better than nothin :-)

I'm set on doing some sort of Ultimate Bastard Strength Monopod Mount. 
I'm talking 5mm steel, 488 hemi and four barrels, buddy. And Steve Larson 
didn't say a word this time...
