When I first clicked on Jack's redtail I got a blank white screen... not an
error. He's not on flicker, tho.
i doubt that had anything to do with Thunderbird; Jack's site is on shared
hosting, and that or a glitch in your internet connection are more likely
culprits; probably if you had left the blank page up and reloaded it a while
later, it would have worked
I call the screen with the the subject lines/sender/date etc the
Index screen - as opposed to a table of contents. Have no idea what
techies who develop these things named it.
yeah what _you_ call, or even what the techies call it, may not work for the
next person, which is why detailed literal descriptions are preferable for
discussing technical problems; Thunderbird can lay out the screen many
different ways, but your description was enough to induce that "opened my index
page" meant launching the app; that and "showed up in two windows" led me to
this bug report:

it is a Windows/Thunderbird problem, and was fixed by a recent Thunderbird
update, which i'll bet is why it "cleared up"; i doubt it was connected to the
URL issues
