Hi Team.
As Igor mentioned, I will be taking over the PUG maintainer duties until
Brian's return (hopefully VERY soon).
I'm not doing anything fancy here, I'm just taking the submitted files and
processing them as a Lightroom gallery and uploading the result to the
server..
The January 2013 gallery is now live (thanks Igor), and we have a couple of
submissions already for the February gallery, and one is even in for the
March gallery.
As always, a big thanks to Frontier Vision Technologies for their kindness
and ongoing sponsorship of the PUG, and a huge thanks to Igor wor walking me
through the process again. I can't believe it's been 12 years since I handed
the PUG off to Adelheid.
When I was doing the gallery, everything was coded by hand, with the average
gallery taking something like 8 hours to put together. We had a team of half
a dozen people doing the page coding, but hand coding upwards of a hundred
images for the index page was very time consuming.
Two things I've noticed 12 years later, the PUG doesn't get nearly the
support form the PDML that it used to get. This gallery is 24 images, and
it's gotten WAY easier to build the gallery.
Save the image files to a directory, tell Lightroom to make a gallery, click
start, and go surf the porn sites until it's done.
(OK, I don't really surf porn sites).
After it's done, take a few moments per page for photographer's comments,
upload the entire thing to Komkon, tell the server that the new gallery is
there (this is what I call a leap of faith), and viola!, a new gallery for
your viewing pleasure.
Anyway, it gives me great pleasure to present the January Pentax Users
Gallery, and I sincerely hope that I won't have to do another one.
Head on over to http://pug.komkon.org/ and pat yourselves on the back for
another fantastic gallery. The PUG wouldn't exist without the support of the
people who submit to it, and I am proud to be associated with this gallery
again, no matter how short the time is.
All the best
William Robb
