So this cheap tripod I've ben using has a quick release button right
next to the ball release. I had my k-5 and 12-24 on it yesterday and
went to release the ball and watched in horror as my camera
plummeted to the asphalt from about 62". Screaming a few choice
obscenities, I picked up the camera and saw that it was ok...just
has a nice scuff in the lower right back corner. Sigh. Oh well. Then
I eventually notice that my 12-24's mount is now loose. Ugh. I get
back inside and take the mount ring off. The screws are anchored into
plastic columns. One is now cracked and unusable. A longer screw would
however dig into the other half that is still there hmm. Then
stupidly, the mount pins all come out. THEN the spring that contacts
the ring falls into the lens. Fuuuuuuuuuuuu. So I start tapping,
hoping to get the spring to fall loose. It does and in the process I
stupidly snap the plastic pin that holds the aperture spring down.
Double fuuuuuuuuu.......

So I'm trying superglue to see if it holds it....otherwise jb weld,
which should work. If that fails I will drill a small hole and use a
thin screw which would be permanent. Now I just need to find a longer
screw...does anyone know the screw dimensions pentax uses on their
mount screws? I'm guessing that they are fairly standardized on their
DA lenses. Also I may need some assistance in getting the pins in the
correct holes. I'm pretty sure I have it right, but I'd like to be
sure. They are NOT easy to work with.

In the meantime I need to get my M 28mm 3.5 taken apart partially so I
can clean the rear element and fix the sticky aperture blades. I'm not
having a good run with lenses lately and of course my metz 54mz-i blew
up a couple of weeks ago, which is going to be about 160 to fix. I
even busted out my DA 18-55 mk 1.

Back to square one for now.
