Can't answer for the phone, but on the computer he may have accidentally hit the magic key combination ctrl+alt+arrow.
Down and up-arrows flip the screen, left and right arrows turn 90 degrees.

Subject: OT: help (for the resident PC experts)

Ok this is help for friend... an odd occurance
HE has windoze, XP and Verizon is his provider (near Boston) for cell phone and internet. (Doesn't have a TV)

a week or so ago the display on his cell phone was reversed . It later righted itself.

TOday, the display on his desktop was upside down.

any known viruses around that mighta ccount for these oddities?

I told him to call Verizon - he doubted that would help (from past experience) but it did seem a curious coincidence that both devices
suffered a kind of reversal of display.

Last I talked to him he had not yet tried his lap top and he is off for
the day to his Moms who has a working computer - and then there is football :-)

Yeah he rebooted, unplugged, etcetc all the usual things
