As to the phone -- he HAD talked to Verizon about that (I just got off
phone with him as it happens) and they said it was a problem with the
phone - I think it righted itself since.

I just tried the Ctrl+Alt+arrow in every combination I could think of
and it doesn't do anything to my screen.
