When I first bought into Pentax it mas a middle of the road camera
manufacture that built rock solid hard to kill cameras. My original
Spotmatic took a 3 foot drop onto concrete and after having the meter re
calibrated took photos just as well as it had before, (but with a huge
dent in it's prism housing). It did not survive the later fall off the
50 foot cliff to the jagged rocks below unfortunately, but that's
another story.
When I got tired of trying to swap screw mount lenses fast, (possible
but usually problematic), I looked at a lot of different camera systems,
and really was leaning towards either Nikon in the form of a nice
Nikkormat FTn, (which I had used at a couple of Newspapers), Olympus
with the tiny jewel like, OM1, or a Pentax KX. Anyway you looked at it I
was going to have to buy all new lenses, Not a huge problem as I only
had a 35mm f2.8 a 55mm f1.8 and a 150mm f4, which I[d gotten a fantastic
deal on at some point. I really did like the 150mm aov.
I had pretty much decided on an OM1, (and a Zuiko 70-150 zoom to keep
the kit small), when Pentax announced the new M series cameras, and the
MX which was pretty much the same price as the OM1 with a full
information viewfinder, and Vivitar had just announced a 70-150mm Zoom
that was just a little faster than the Zuiko, and was reputed to be the
same Optical formula as the Legendary 70-210 Series 1.
So I ended up with Pentax yet again. Not because it was less expensive
but because of it's superior features at roughly the same price.

That's fine if it has $2500 worth of content. But I certainly won't
complain if it compares favorably to cameras costing more.
That's what brought me to Pentax to begin with, "compares favorably to
cameras costing more." I think they need to continue to do that.

Buy a Leica to get the full “Leica Experience”, (a quick reduction of funds in
the bank account).
