Determine a nice exposure with your K-5 and duplicate that with the slide film. Exposing for highlights is fine if you apply some zone thinking, but you definitely don't want to aim a center weighted meter at the sky to determine exposure. You'll be critically underexposed. If you must use the center weighted meter, find a neutral area of the scene, such as green grass or a grey wall to fill the frame when determining your exposure, then bracket in half stops.
