I think the reason that Pentax cancelled the MZ-D was, among other things,
that the high-end professional crowd is just not their market.  People who
make their livings with their cameras buy _systems_ and invest a lot in
lenses.  There are many Nikon and Canon system professionals out there, but
few Pentax pros (at least in 35mm).  Ergo, no established market for a $7000
pro-grade body.

The 35mm SLR Pentax market is the enthusiast, the connoisseur, the
collector.  These folks (us, basically) will buy lots of digital SLR's when
they can be produced at prices near the current MZ-S price (say, $1000).
Fortunately, Moore's Law is on our side.  Imaging array prices and image
post-processing prices are going to continue to drop.  When they get low
enough, I think that Pentax will put out the digital SLR that we desire.
Remember, today's $300 digital cameras have more memory and processing power
than a $3000 PC from 5 years ago!
