Way back in 1975 a teacher at the Chicago high school where I taught English asked if I would take a BW pic of her and her kids. Like many young photographers, I had a penchant for doing things the hard way, so I decided to shoot them with my Speed Graphic and 127 mm Raptor 4.5. I had jerry rigged a cord so I could attach a Honeywell potato masher strobe. So I did that and mounted the strobe on an umbrella that I had painted white. I had to tray process the film. (Couldn't take it to a lab. That would be too easy.)
I'm not sure if the lady specified that she didn't want to look at the camera, but neither she nor her children are looking at the camera. The pic was for a newspaper column she wrote. Maybe they just thought they should look at the flash. I scanned it today on the V500. Just for grins. There's no 4 x 5 film holder for that scanner, so I just placed the neg on the scanner in the approximate position of the overhead light. The scanning area is less than 4 inches wide, but I needed to crop it a bit anyway. At 3200 dpi, the scan is 1.2 gigs. I may print it.
