Thanks - I tried the flash in all of the various settings. At first I thought it was something to do with the Q to K adapter, since installing a flash forces the camera to the 1/13th second synch. But it happens with regular Q lenses as well. The ring light works on every other camera I tired (4 of them) so it must be something about the Q. I wondered if it is the hotshoe itself on the Q (thinking that maybe the ringlight wasn't seating properly or something) but I tried a hotshoe adpater F and it still does not work. An AF360FGZ works just as it should on the Q so I'm not sure what is going on. Not a big deal since I would want the continuous ring light to be on continuously for metering purposes anyhow.

Did you try disabling flash on the Q (The left button from the four
way controller). That's the only way I can trigger older manual
flashes like the AF160

The only issue I am having with the Bolt is that I can't get it's so-called
flash mode to work on the Q. This is a mode where the Bolt activates for 1/2
of a second when you press the shutter. The control is on the hotshoe and
the flash signal actives it. It works on every camera I have except the Q
for some reason. Regular flashes work on the Q so I am stumped for the time
being. I'm sure it is just some menu setting I am missing.

If your 50mm K macro lens is an f4 I believe it is the same optical formula
as the M50 f4 that I used.

That's impressive.

I'm still building up my Q kit - the 15 to 45 zoom is on the way and I
have adapters for M42 and Konica AR. I'm yet to try macro with my Q but I
have a 55mm Hexanon that I'll be playing with when I get a chance. I even
have an old 50mm Macro Takumar that might be worth trying.

I'm interested in that Bolt ring light. From your last paragraph I get
the impression that you think actual flash has some advantages over
continuous light. If so, any particular reason? Greater light intensity?
