It's happening everywhere (as you know), Bob. I don't want to get all political 
(because such a conversation will get nowhere, with the same people saying the 
same things as they always do) but the dismantling of the social welfare system 
is well underway here in Canada and has been for some time, along with attacks 
on labour (usually under the guise of "right to work" legislation - Orwellian 
politicalspeak at its best).

I won't bother talking about the situation in other countries.

Anyway, those are amazing photos, many of which I've seen before. Would love to 
see that exhibit!

at the risk of sounding like one of Monty Python's Yorkshiremen, my mother
and her siblings were raised in worse conditions than those, before the war.
But they give you some idea of why, after the war, people wanted to sweep
everything aside, and why they built the welfare state. It's being
dismantled bit by bit now by a bunch of old Etonians and their corporate
chums, and those sort of conditions will return if we don't do something
about it.
