The State Gallery of NSW is hosting an outstanding show at the moment. Shame on me that I've only just now managed to visit.

Bernard Holtermann made it rich on the goldfields of NSW. He didn't actually dig up the enormous Holtermann nugget, but made sure his name as always associated with it.

I can't imagine handling 1.6m wet plate and setting up a camera on top of a tower to take a series of panoramas. They must have been manly men back then.
