I agree - this and your newer one are good captures of the action. 
I am not a PS user, and only partially understand LR tools, so take this with a 
grain of salt: Instead of trying to eliminate the second kid, can you 
selectively soften the background, including the kid? He is a nice element in 
the photo, but somehow needs to be de-emphasized.
It seems that you are fighting with a tough setting, and you are always going 
to have background clutter; would it help to open up the lens and keep only 
your subject in focus?
