If it is a decent place, i.e.. not Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts et al, then ask for a longo (the o is pronounced as a u). Essentially it is an double espresso but they keep it pumping longer. This is how they make regular coffee in NL and it is great. Not watered down like an Americano.
Latte is similar to flat white (we drink those when in NZ) or kafe leche in Spain. Just realize that you need to find an espresso bar, Starbucks isn't it as described below.
