Need? NEED? You don't need no steenkin easel ... oops, wrong movie.

Well, a two-bladed easel beats a good four-bladed easel on price, and
that's about it, IMO. It's sometimes very difficult to get a two-bladed
easel to have perfectly equal borders, especially when adjusting the
blades frequently. In addition, the blades aren't always parallel or
square. All the four-bladed easels I've tried have been heavier and
more stable than their two-bladed counterparts.

However, I prefer a two-bladed easel for its ease of use and speed when
I'm making quick proof prints. OTOH, a Speed Easel is even faster, and
even less expensive.

Frankly, when starting out, a two-bladed easel's not a bad way to go.
You'll always find a use for it, even years later, and the cost
efficiency will allow you to waste more paper.

Most two-bladed easels are of similar design and quality, but when you
move into the four-bladed models, there are quite a few variations, and
it may take you a while to look at them all and decide which brand and
style suits you best. Since they're a bit spendy, you don't want to
make a hasty decision. Meanwhile, you can be printing with a $10.00
eBay special.

I've got a Bogen two-bladed easel that I picked up on eBay for just
about $10.00. It was in good shape, and it has a clamping arrangement
on the blades that keeps 'em nice and square. But I've also got a nice
four-bladed Saunders 14x17 that's a real jewel. I'd not give either up,
and when I get around to it, I'd like to grab a few Speed Easels, too.
