Hi, Debra,

You don't lose a stop, but you lose the automatic aperture feature of
the lens.  In other words, you'll be doing it the "old fashioned way".
Like, real old fashioned.

You physically stop down the aperture to get your exposure, the aperture
stays stopped down, and you activate the shutter.  The aperture will
then stay stopped down after the exposure.
