You see, the aperture was 1.8 (or whatever is the value of the
half-click between fully open (1.4) and 2.0). So, it would seem my
choice to not to wait until that waiter on the background "leaves the
building" wasn't the optimal one!

Nice compositional balance in this shot and very good B&W rendering,
shadow is great too but the receding lines lead my eye to the guy in
the background. I think it needs a more limited DOF to work best.
