Your 135mm lenses must have been pretty cheap. The cheapest long lens, (it wasn't a telephoto design), available that I remember from that time was the Spiritone T mount 400mm preset f 8.0. IIRC you could buy one for about a third what than a decent 135mm f2.8 automatic lens from a third party importer such as Vivitar. They were actually pretty good lenses if you knew how to use them. My longest lens at the time was a Super Takumar 150mm f4.0 which I got a very good deal on as the new Super Multi Coated Takumars were replacing them in the stores. Ah, the good old days, when you could visit an actual camera store and see actual Pentax equipment on sale.

When I was in a situation that required an 80-200 for some "reach" (Rolling 
Stones show in 1982 - I ended up in the front row), I had to borrow one from a friend.  
It was a magical thing - wow.  Otherwise I had the Takumar 135 f2.5 ... which I'm still 
using today.
