Three is another possibility, Ann, I didn't think of it before even though I
have one for my 283.. Vivitar makes a remote cord for the 285 (the one for
the 283 is not interchangeable). You unplug the sensor/dial from the flash
and plug the cord into the flash where sensor was. Then you pug the sensor
into the other end of the cord which has a hotfoot. Put the hotfoot into the
hotshoe on the camera. Now you have a sensor that points the same way as the
camera, and a flash you can aim any which way you want. Bounce, arms length,
on a bracket, with and umbrella, it works; and maintains auto mode as well.
