It's nice to know I'm not the only one who struggles with that focal length. I guess I need more manual focus practice, anyway. I may look into the FA version one day, though. I don't have any primes shorter than 50mm, and I bet it would be a nice lens for landscapes.
i would never have sought it out, i only have an FA 28mm/2.8 AL because it "fell into my hands" (off a cheap camera at Goodwill, iirc); i've liked it much more than expected; i also have a pretty nice 28mm Sigma Mini-Wide that lives on a micro-four thirds adapter on my partner's camera
on APS, 28mm is a "short normal", not typical as a landscape lens, but certainly valid; you need 18mm or so to start to get that sense of a landscape surrounding you
