I don't own a K-5 but I would assume the improved metering would carry over when using lenses stopped down. Every camera I've owned since the Spotmatic seems to have been optimized for open aperture metering. Even the LX was problematic when metering with a M42 lens. I run out of the accurate range pretty quickly with the the K20D using K and M lenses and the same was true of the *ist-D series cameras I own as well.
