Actually, he had a couple of used StormTrooper K-x in the display case.
I probably ought to stop by again and inquire about his price for one of
them before I buy.
For that matter, I could probably use my *ist-D.
He also had a Z-x (?) and a Zm (?) in the case & when the last Ritz camera
in Raleigh closed down he bought their Fuji Frontier (including the film
processor), so I now have a convenient place to get 35mm CN film
processed (and E-6 cross processed). If I need anything else, like
traditional B&W, standard E-6 or any 4x5 sheet film processing, there's
a pro-lab nearby.
Raleigh has two solid independent camera stores and both of them are
within a mile of my house. And that pro-lab is literally "right around
the corner" from one of the independent dealers.
I live in a photographer's paradise.

Honestly, I'd rather have a spare Pentax K-x in the car than a point
& shoot. You can find them for less than $300 with a kit lens at
KEH.

Put it in a bag and stick it under the seat if it won't fit in the
glove compartment.
The K-x has superb high ISO and runs on AA batteries.

Agreed (although I can use the LCD in some situations and a fully
articulated LCD mostly makes up for the lack of a viewfinder).
As far as I can tell, the Canon G series, the Nikon 7100 & (some
models) Nikon 1 are the only point 'n shoot cameras still made
with an eye-level viewfinder.
Also the Fuji X-S1, depending on how one defines P&S.
