These guys are harder to catch than tree swallows, they rarely perch when they're out of their colony (or wherever they live; they seem to have a communal living area under a wooden lookout structure). Once in a rare while I'll see one or two of them hanging around among the reeds that almost cover the entrance to their dwelling:

As summer progresses those reeds are becoming more profuse and just flying in and out of their dwelling requires fairly acrobatic maneuvering.

Apparently they never alight on the ground as their little claws are curved; their entire lives are spent either perched or flying.
