I don't know what Ann's choices are in NYC, but here in Raleigh, it's
either Time-Warner Cable RoadRunner or AT&T (formerly BellSouth) ADSL.
I think I've mentioned here before why I refuse to pay extortion to AT&T.
I might be able to pay extra to get another ISP to give me access over
Time-Warner's cable, but I'd still have to pay Time-Warner for internet,
because internet is all that I have. I don't subscribe to cable TV.
Even dial-up is right out, because AT&T has an absolute monopoly on
local residential telephone service. (See above re: paying extortion to
AT&T.)
