After dinner last night, we stopped at a Japanese grocery store to get
some mochi creams. I thought they were rather pretty and snapped
a wee bit of food porn:

I also finally started my switch from the manfrotto QR to Arca Swiss
compatible. I am well aware of the theory about just buying top end
tripod and head up front and saving money in the long run compared
to many incremental upgrades, I settled for an incremental upgrade
that would be mount compatible with the top end stuff when I can
afford the investment.

It turns out that Induro is the same as Benro, who made the carbon
fiber monopod that I'm so fond of. And while the Induro BHD3 may not
be quite as solid and nifty as the top end RRS, or other big name brand,
I suspect that it will compete favorably with the $200 name brand units.

One thing that wasn't obvious looking at the different ball heads on
the net was the size. The BHD3 is big. It has three knobs. One that
controls swivel on the mounting axis, the little one on the side controls
drag, and the big one locks it down. When I lock the bigma into place,
unlike my old heads, it does not sag appreciably. It may settle just
a tiny bit, but not so much that I'm certain it's not my technique.

Overall, I'm pleased with it, though I haven't had a chance to really try
it out yet.

Next, I am going to need to do some research into mounting plates.
I've picked up a few inexpensive ones, and I can see various features
that could be handy, like a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the bottom of one,
and this plate that will work with both Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto RC2
systems:
