Christine, My DA* 50-135mm had a faulty motor (the poorly designed/produced-implemented one). It was replaced; a few months after the warranty period; paid. Then, the poor lens (metaphorically, I mean!) hit the concrete and the motor died again at that moment. The guy at our Pentax service told me that they were happy with the "new" motor. Apparently none of them failed (in contrast to the "originals"). And, you are right in expecting; they had the motor(s) in their stock. My lens still sits somewhere home to be repaired; I have no idea about its whereabouts :(
